Full-Service Supply Chain Services with Vendor Managed Inventory

At ASF Components, we go to great lengths to ensure that our clients’ class “C” components inventory stays current and stocked. Whether we’re researching the latest in warehouse technologies or we’re investing in new, returnable container programs, we stay on top of industry developments and aim to be ahead of the curve when it comes to providing our clients with vendor managed inventory services.

Recently, we had the opportunity to work with Navistar, a manufacturer of commercial trucks, diesel engines, commercial buses, Workhorse branded chassis and more. Headquartered in Lisle, Illinois, Navistar’s products are sold through a network of nearly 1,000 international dealer outlets.

Upon contacting us, Navistar’s representatives expressed a need to have 1,200 SKUs supplied to their Springfield, Illinois assembly plant by utilizing the KANBAN / Just-In-Time program. Almost immediately, ASF Components took action, designing a new distribution center to service the plant. From the ground up, we created the center’s layout and sourced the equipment that it needed to operate.

After completing the center, we hired and trained personnel to handle accounting, purchasing, quality control and warehouse duties. These are the keys to proper vendor managed inventory: attention to detail and commitment. At ASF Components, we committed to the project in the early stages, created the conditions necessary for success and then ensured the staff that we trained were prepared to continue that success.

With Navistar, ASF Components ordered the necessary SKUs at the two-month mark and thirty days later, the distribution center was ready to go live. We view the project as an illustration of our commitment to providing high-quality, efficient vendor managed inventory that can relieve the stresses and burdens associated with maintaining your stock levels.

If you’re considering a vendor managed inventory system or you’re weighing your options in regards to your supply chain, we encourage you to reach out to one of our knowledgeable employees. We can walk you through the process, detail the benefits that you can experience and, hopefully, help you optimize your stocking system.
