Recently, we had the opportunity to work with Navistar, a manufacturer of commercial trucks, diesel engines, commercial buses, Workhorse branded chassis and more. Headquartered in Lisle, Illinois, Navistar’s products are sold through a network of nearly 1,000 international dealer outlets.

Upon contacting us, Navistar’s representatives expressed a need to have 1,200 SKUs supplied to their Springfield, Illinois assembly plant by utilizing the KANBAN / Just-In-Time program. Almost immediately, ASF Components took action, designing a new distribution center to service the plant. From the ground up, we created the center’s layout and sourced the equipment that it needed to operate.

After completing the center, we hired and trained personnel to handle accounting, purchasing, quality control and warehouse duties. These are the keys to proper vendor managed inventory: attention to detail and commitment. At ASF Components, we committed to the project in the early stages, created the conditions necessary for success and then ensured the staff that we trained were prepared to continue that success.

With Navistar, ASF Components ordered the necessary SKUs at the two-month mark and thirty days later, the distribution center was ready to go live.
